Founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto, this Port House has always had a pioneering spirit – from the distinctive and stylish ‘art nouveau’ advertising from the 1900s to the continuing wide ranging vineyard research with results that have benefited the whole port trade. Champagne Louis Roederer, now the majority shareholder, perpetuates this philosophy and ensures continuity in a company renowned for wine-making excellence.
The 20-year-old tawny shows an elegant nose with fine balance. Hints of figs toffee and dried fruits vie for attention on the spoil-yourself palate. Almost a quarter of the fruit was sourced from 80 year olf vines this factor combined with meticulous winemaking only adds to the wines indomitable character.
A tawny colour with a yellow halo that signifies an advanced stage of maturity. This is the genuine colour of a 20 year-old cask-aged wine. It has a warm red colour with a slight orange tone at the bottom of the glass. A lively aroma with a velvety texture. Fruit aromas: grapefruit, apricot, almond, hazelnut and cocoa bean. Wood aromas: vanilla, old Port wine casks and phenol. Roasted aromas: cinnamon, caramel, coffee. Ethereal aromas: stearin and iodine.
