Unlike Mourne Dew's other poitíns this has not expose it to wood but left clear and strong with a delicious malted barley flavour coming through. It is superb on its own or suitable for incorporation in a wide range of cocktails
Traditional Irish poitín required great skill on the part of the poitín maker as the processes of fermentation and conventional distillation produced a lot of chemicals other than alcohol. Some of these were downright nasty with unpleasant tastes and side effects.
Mourne Dew have perfected the cold distillation processes such that unpleasant chemicals can be removed at the final distillation stage, resulting in a finished spirit rich in the flavours of the malted barley used to make it.
With an ABV of 60% it needs to be treated with a lot of respect!
