Deep ruby red in colour, with violet hues.
On the nose, the wine is concentrated, with perfumes of ripe, red fruit and a hint of liquorice. Rounded tannins support ripe, red fruit characters on the palate.
Syrah grapes for this wine are grown in a 5-hectare vineyard at Limony, planted on a light, schistous and gneiss soil on a granite base. Yields are 35 hl/ha and the vines are 20-50 years old. A further 6 hectares are being planted in the communes of Serrières and Tournon. The name of ‘Grand Pompee‘ comes from Victor Hugos Légende des siècles and refers to the 9th Century knight who fought by the side of Charlemagne on the banks of the river Rhône.
