Harmonious full-bodied red wine. Medium intense garnet colour with solid tears. Complex nose of cooked fruit, dried herbs and earthy hints. Mouth-filling texture with subdued acidity and velvety tannins. Warm finale with very long spicy finish.
The Cartuxa winery is owned by the Eugenio de Almeida Foundation. A privately funded charity founded in 1963. Cartuxa gets its name from the Cartuxa Monastery, where the Carthusian Monks lived in silence and prayed since 1598!
Cartuxa red Reserve is a blend of Alicante Bouschet and Aragonez, planted in the Eugénio de Almeida Foudation, oldest vineyards. When the grapes are judged to be perfectly matured, they are carefully picked and brought into the winery for destalking, gentle crushing and fermentation in temperature controlled steel vats. There follows a 15 days maceration period followed by maturation in new French barrels for 15 months, and 36 months in bottle prior to release.
