The unusual name of this Margaret River estate comes from Samuel Coleridge’s poem about Kubla Khan’s legendary city of Xanadu on the remote Mongolian steppe. When founder Dr John Lagan created the winery here in 1977 he was struck by the similarities between the poetic city and his adoptive homeland. Today the estate continues to impress, with some 110 hectares of vineyards that enjoy a sunny Mediterranean climate and proximity to the Indian Ocean.

Their classic Chardonnay perfectly captures the essence of the estate’s unique terroir thanks to the dedication of head winemaker Glenn Goodall who believes in letting the grapes speak for themselves rather than ‘beating them into submission’. Fruit is sourced from the Wallcliffe region of Margaret River with barrel fermentation using wild yeasts to add more complexity and character to the finished wine.
