Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge, a young winemaking couple who crossed paths during their studies in Bordeaux, recently ventured into the world of winemaking.

Despite their non-Loire Valley origins, in 2019 they acquired Domaine des Sables Verts, nestled in the heart of Saumur Champigny. This marked the beginning of their winemaking journey.

The estate encompasses 16 hectares of vineyards spread across five communes—Varrains, Chacé, Saumur, Souzay-Champigny, and Parnay.

Cabernet Franc thrives across fifteen hectares of the estate, while Chenin Blanc occupies just one hectare. The vines flourish in deep clay-limestone soils enriched with tuffeau and green sand, locally known as `sables verts,` which served as the inspiration behind the Domaine’s name.

The wine displays enticing aromas of juicy raspberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit. The raspberry fruit flows strongly through to the palate alongside supple tannins and a fresh acidity, resulting in a crisp finish.

Drink this a little chilled and imagine you have picked it up from a cool dark Loire valley cellar. The vines lie on deep clay-limestone soils that are rich in tuffeau and green sand, or ‘sables verts’, which inspired the name of the domaine.
